Healthcare is more than just procedures and policies—it is deeply human, rooted in the emotional, ethical, and even spiritual dimensions of care. Beyond clinical expertise, healthcare providers navigate stress, suffering, and life-altering decisions daily. In such an environment, spirituality—whether through faith, mindfulness, or a deeper sense of purpose—can become an essential anchor, providing resilience, emotional strength, and moral clarity in moments of uncertainty.
At Rufayda – Care for Healthcare, we advocate for a healthcare system that nurtures not just the hands that heal, but the hearts that sustain them. Through mentorship, emotional well-being programs, and a culture of self-reflection, we encourage healthcare providers to find meaning in their work, develop emotional resilience, and foster compassionate leadership.
Dr. Minhaj Qidwai’s 5Ss framework—Self, Society, State, Systems, and Spirituality—recognizes that true well-being goes beyond physical and mental health. Spirituality fosters compassionate care, ethical decision-making, and emotional endurance, helping providers stay connected to the deeper meaning behind their work. Yet, it remains largely overlooked in healthcare organizational culture. Institutions focus on efficiency, regulations, and outcomes, often neglecting the internal struggles of those who dedicate their lives to healing others. Without spiritual well-being, healthcare can become transactional—losing the very essence of human connection that makes it transformative.
This philosophy inspired our book, Impact of Organizational Culture and the Well-being of Healthcare Providers, co-edited with Dr. Minhaj Qidwai. It explores how spirituality, alongside the other pillars of the 5Ss framework, can reshape healthcare culture—ensuring that providers are not just physically present, but emotionally and spiritually whole.
We invite you to be part of this conversation. Share your insights on how spirituality influences healthcare provider well-being.
